The Bruce Peninsula has long been known for its unique geology. In association with the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and others, researchers have spent years excavating a fossil site near Wiarton, Ontario. Unique and bizarre creatures have been found recently that have not been seen the light of day for about 400 million years. These findings expand our knowledge of what the Bruce may have looked like in ancient times.
Lecturer - Stu Collier
Stu Collier is an amateur fossil collector with more than 40 years experience collecting fossils all over North America. As a former Royal Ontario Museum field collector, he spent a couple of years working at the world-famous Burgess Shale in British Columbia and his discovery of the Eramosa Largerstratten was a fortunate accident.
Stu will explain why the fossils found in our area are so important and exciting. And if you're there in person, bring your favourite local fossils. You'll get a chance to ask Stu about them!
